The New Tretyakov Gallery presents the most completed in our country permanent exhibition of the art of the 20th century in all its diversity - avant - garde, socialistic realism and art of the "austere style" and "underground" and some new art trends. Here are held not only large-scale retrospectives of great Russian artists, but also showed experimental exhibitions of young authors.
At the beginning of the exhibition, the visitors are greeted by the works of K. S. Petrov-Vodkin and the famous painting "Bathing the Red Horse" (1912).
Next, a kind of evolutionary route is built: you can see the brightest representatives of the early avant-garde, N. S. Goncharova and M. F. Larionov, with their primitivist experiments, searches and experiments in luchism; a wide panorama of art associations of the 1910s — from "Union of Youth" to "Jack of Diamonds"— and famous paintings by A.V. Lentulov, I. I. Mashkov, P. P. Konchalovsky and others; there is also a hall dedicated to the collection of an outstanding collector George Kostaki. The collector transferred most of his collection to the Tretyakov Gallery in 1977. This gift was the largest in the history of the museum.
In a separate room, the works of the "Amazons of the avant-garde" — A. A. Exter, O. V. Rozanova, L. S. Popova and V. E. Pestel — are combined.
In the monographic hall of Marc Chagall, the audience is still waiting for the master's masterpiece — "Over the City" (1918), and in the hall of Vladimir Tatlin — the famous "counter — reliefs" and the original flywheel "Letatlin" — a non-motorized individual aircraft that the artist designed in the early 1930s. Reconstruction of the exhibition of the OBMOKhU (Society of Young Artists) in 1921, the original school of P. N. Filonov and his followers, as well as two versions of the "Black Square" (1915 and 1929) by K. S. Malevich.
"Venice" by Alexandra Exter is my absolute favorite. It's a massive oil painting with a bright colour scheme and mesmerizing shapes. Every time I visit the gallery I look forward to seeing this canvas.

There's also another painting I love in the gallery. When I first saw it, I was so charmed that I forgot to remember its title and the name of the painter. What I remember, though, is that it was a full-size and a full-length portrait made in oil on canvas. It represented a woman in a heavy black dress with long sleeves sitting in an armchair. The woman had piercing dark eyes and was a picture of power and confidence. Her hands lay on the armrests. The picture was executed flawlessly. Cool and dark greens and greys predominated in its color scheme, adding to the atmosphere.
I looked for this painting, and it wasn't exhibited this time, which was a shame.

We found Filonov's works very interesting. Before going to the Tretyakov Gallery, we knew nothing about this artist. At home, we studied some information about him and found out that all his paintings were painted in the same style. From a seemingly common background, individual faces and silhouettes are drawn, which are combined into a common composition.
This style Filonov called "Made paintings", arguing that the artist, drawing, should "make every atom" of his work. These "atoms" make up the cycle of paintings "Entering the World's Heyday".
We were also very impressed by the works of artists who draw in the style of socialist realism, such as Alexander Deineka, Alexander Gerasimov, Mikhail Nesterov, Yuri Pimenov.

To conclude, we had a great time visiting this exhibition, and we recommend you to go there, too. Besides, there are many other very interesting temporary exhibitions in the New Tretyakov Gallery, so everyone can find something to their taste!
